Cargo from the UK to Azerbaijan: shipping to Baku

We ship equipment, spare parts and cosmetics from UK manufacturers and distributors to Baku. Routes are planned around post-Brexit paperwork, and we can handle customs brokerage if you need it.

How cargo from the UK to Azerbaijan works

Since 2021 the United Kingdom has been outside the EU customs territory. For cargo from the UK this means a separate export clearance and, for road freight, transit documents for crossing Europe. We factor this in when planning the shipment.

We arrange collection from the supplier’s warehouse, or the supplier delivers to an agreed point. After receipt, the cargo is measured, the documents are checked and the final price is confirmed.

Small lots travel as consolidated cargo charged per kilogram. For larger volumes we arrange containers (FCL, LCL), a full truckload (FTL) or a dedicated shipment on request.

Customs clearance in Azerbaijan can be done by you or your broker, or handed to us as a separate brokerage service. Brokerage terms are agreed individually in the offer.

What companies import from the UK

Imports from the UK are usually driven by a specific need: particular equipment, parts from a specific manufacturer or a product not available locally.

  • Spare parts for industrial and construction machinery, hydraulics, engine components
  • Equipment, instruments and consumables for the oil, gas and energy sector
  • Cosmetics, skincare and fragrances
  • B2B e-commerce: wholesale orders from UK online distributors, office and IT equipment
  • Laboratory and medical consumables
  • Books, educational materials and printed matter

Routes from the UK to Baku

The UK is an island, so any overland route starts with a Channel crossing. We choose the mode based on the cargo, urgency and budget; the timeline is stated in the offer.

  • Air — from London Heathrow and other major airports. The fastest option for spare parts, cosmetics and small, high-value cargo.
  • Road — by Dover–Calais ferry or the Channel Tunnel to the continent, then across Europe, Turkey and Georgia into Azerbaijan. The cargo moves through the EU in transit.
  • Sea — containers from Felixstowe or Southampton via the Black Sea ports of Poti or Batumi to Baku. For heavy equipment and large lots.

Post-Brexit documents and customs clearance

An export declaration is required on the UK side, normally lodged by the exporter or its agent; the exporter needs an EORI number. For road freight, the cargo crosses the EU under a transit procedure (for example, a TIR carnet or T1 transit declaration).

In Azerbaijan the cargo is cleared under the general rules: duty depends on the HS code, import VAT is 18% of the customs value plus duty, and customs fees apply. The declaration is filed electronically with the State Customs Committee.

Documents you will need:

  • Commercial invoice — showing the Incoterms rule and currency
  • Packing list
  • AWB, CMR or bill of lading, depending on the mode
  • Certificate of origin — issued in the UK by chambers of commerce
  • For cosmetics, ingredient and safety documentation; for equipment, a certificate of conformity where required

Tips for companies buying from the UK

In UK trade, most hold-ups come from paperwork mistakes. These points help keep cargo moving:

  • Don’t confuse origin with the country of dispatch. Goods bought from a UK warehouse may be made elsewhere — the invoice and certificate of origin must show the actual country of manufacture.
  • Agree in writing with the seller who lodges the export declaration. Buying EXW leaves this question open.
  • When ordering from an online distributor, ask for a full commercial invoice in your company’s name, not a simple receipt.
  • Aerosols and alcohol-based liquids in cosmetics and fragrances ship under special conditions — list them separately in your request.
  • The same applies to devices and tools with lithium batteries: declare them in advance; terms are set individually.

What to include in your request for UK cargo

For a quote, give us a description of the goods, weight, volume, number of packages and the supplier’s city (for example, London, Birmingham or Manchester). Add the invoice value and Incoterms rule if known, and say whether you need customs brokerage.

The operator selects the route and mode and sends an offer. The price is based on the greater of actual and volumetric weight and is confirmed once the cargo is received. Handover is at our warehouse in Baku.

Has importing from the UK become harder since Brexit?

There is a bit more paperwork: a separate UK export declaration and, for road freight, transit documents through the EU. We account for this when planning the route.

How long does cargo from the UK to Baku take?

It depends on the mode and route — air is the fastest, road and sea take longer. The specific timeline is stated in the offer.

Can you ship a wholesale order from a UK online store?

Yes, if the seller delivers to an agreed point or collection can be arranged. You will need a full commercial invoice in your company’s name.

How is the origin of EU-made goods bought in the UK declared?

The country of origin is where the goods were made, not where they were shipped from. Ask your supplier to show the actual country of manufacture on the invoice and certificate of origin.

Can I clear customs through my own broker?

Yes. We deliver the cargo to Azerbaijan and you or your broker handle clearance; if you prefer, we can do it as a separate brokerage service.
